Virus Repair Procedure and Policy
All computers connecting to the Mills College network need to have the latest virus protection software and the latest operating system and application security updates and patches.
On average, Mills College has 500+ students and faculty and staff using our wireless networking service each day. If infected with a virus or a worm, any one of these computers can disrupt services on campus.
ITS staff members contact students, faculty, and staff individually when we see evidence of viruses and worms. We send a message to the user of the PC suspected of being infected and block the computer's network access until the user has worked with ITS staff to address the problem. All other services (email, class materials, etc.) will remain available using other campus computers.
Please see the following site for a good approach to protecting your Windows computer: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/default.mspx
- Step 1 encourages you to use a firewall.
- Step 2 outlines the process to receive security updates from Microsoft. Consider this step required.
- Step 3 encourages you to use virus protection software. Consider this step required.
- Step 4 encourages you to use antispyware software.
Mills College offers free virus protection software for students, faculty, and staff with personal systems that use our network.
