Connecting to Mills Servers - Mac OS X

Students, faculty, and staff with a Mills account can save personal files on the 'myfiles' file server and work files on the 'millswork' file server.

Note: in ITS computer labs, your 'myfiles' storage space is already connected when you log into the computer. You can access it by opening 'Macintosh HD'--the server will be listed on the lefthand side of the window.

Connecting to Mills Servers

1.  If you are using a wireless computer or personal computer in your residence hall room, be sure to log in via Bluesocket first.

  • Open Safari.
  • Use your Mills username and password to log in at the Bluesocket interface.
  • Once you are logged in, keep the Bluesocket browser window active, as you will need to log out using that window.
  • When finished with network access, log out via the Bluesocket window.

Note: If there is no Bluesocket icon active, close all Safari windows and then reopen Safari. This should prompt a small Bluesocket window to come up displaying a Logout command.

2.  From the 'Go' menu, select 'Connect to Server.'

Connect to Server

3.  In the window that opens, enter the appropriate server name in the 'Server Address:' field:

  • smb://myfiles.mills.edu to connect to your myfiles server space (personal space for students, faculty, and staff)
  • smb://millswork.mills.edu to connect to your millswork server space (storage space for Mills business files for faculty, staff, and student workers)

To add this server to your list of 'Favorite Servers,' click the '+' icon to the right of the 'Server Address:' field.

4.  Click 'Connect.'

5. If connecting to 'millswork,' select 'Departments' and click 'Ok.'

6. In the window that opens, enter your Mills username in the 'Name' field and your Mills password in the 'Password' field.

7.  Click 'Ok.'

8. If connecting to 'myfiles,' select your username and click 'Ok.'

9.  If you have connected to 'myfiles,' a window will open to your personal file storage area.  If you have connected to 'millswork,' you will need to browse to your Departmental folder and then to your folder to access your file server space.  If you close this window, you can reopen it by opening 'Macintosh HD' and clicking on the server listed on the lefthand side of the window.

10.  Be sure to log out of the computer when you are finished to protect your files from being accessed by the next person to use the computer.

IF YOU FORGET YOUR PASSWORD

There is no way to retrieve your old password. The only way to gain access to the network is to reset your password. Follow the password reset instructions detailed on the Password Setting or Resetting page.

To report network outages please call the computing help desk at ext. 2005 or e-mail helpdesk@mills.edu.
