Charges for AV Services

Audio and Visual equipment is provided throughout the campus to students, faculty, and staff by the Office of Academic Technical Services located in the Audio-Visual Technical Services Center (AVTSC) in the Fine Arts Annex, Room 113. The office is here to assist you with your classroom presentation needs as well as your general audio-visual needs.
Academic Technical Services provides an array of equipment that may be checked out at the AVTSC. Delivery service for certain equipment is available for classroom use on weekdays during our regular business hours.

- Digital projectors for computer and video
- Overhead projectors
- Slide projectors (limited availability)
- PC laptops (for academic use only)
- Video recording and playback systems
- Portable audio recorders

The AVTSC service staff asks for a three-day advance reservation for most equipment, though some equipment, especially video camcorders and digital projectors, usually require up to ten days in advance.
Limited equipment is available for immediate check-out. Professional staff will be happy to discuss the particular needs of a project or event and arrange for the future availability of equipment. Reservations are best made by calling the office directly and speaking to an audio-visual assistant or via email through AV-Requests@mills.edu.
Equipment Checkout Information and Policies
- The AVTSC requires a two week notice for delivery and set-up of large venues that require multiple staff members.
- The AVTSC asks for three working days' notice for small speaker equipment setups requiring a single staff member.
- A two week notice is required for Weekend or night events requiring a Technician - Subject to hourly charge.
- Maximum three-day checkout for high-demand equipment (Mini-DVcams, digital projectors, Laptops, etc.)
- Pick up your equipment on time! If customers do not pick up equipment within 2 hours of their scheduled time (or call to notify us they will be late), AVTSC reserves the right to cancel or give the equipment to someone else. Repeated reservation of equipment with failure to pick up, may also result in suspension of check-out privileges.
- Return your equipment on time! Or, if you must return it late, call and let us know that you cannot get it back on time. Other people who have reserved equipment are counting on its availability! Late return of equipment is more than sufficient grounds for cancellation of all equipment use privileges.
- $10/day late fees apply for high-demand equipment such as laptops, digital projectors, and video cameras.
Charges for AV Services
- The AVTSC's primary responsibilities are limited to the academic schedule of Mills College. Our department serves the needs of the academic classes and lectures central to the Mills College students, faculty, and staff. Any event requiring AV equipment or AV staff services outside of academic hours and purposes not directly related to classes and lectures are subject to fees.

- $50per hour / $75per hour after 9PM
- $75per hour Sat/Sun
Additional Services Provided at the AVTSC
- Audio and video duplication (subject to applicable copyright laws)
- Cassette to CD transfer (subject to applicable copyright laws)
- Blank video and audio media purchase (Mini-DV, DVD-R, CD-R, audio cassette)
Duplication/Blank Media Charges
- $4 per copy to DVD/VHS (same price for blank DVD media)
- $7.50 per copy to MiniDV tape (same price for blank MiniDV)
- $2 per blank VHS or Cassette Tape (limited supply)
- $1 per Hi8 tape (limited supply)
Most of the college's collection of audio tapes, records, discs, films, video tapes, DVDs, and slides is located in the F. W. Olin Library. Materials may be checked out for use in the library's audio-visual review rooms only. Customers are welcome to review their own materials in these rooms as well.
