Oakland, CA–August 12, 2009. On August 17, Mills College will open a new student health center operated by Kaiser Permanente, the first Kaiser health center on a college campus in northern California.

Regardless of their insurance plan, all students at Mills College are eligible to use the health center, and will receive unprecedented healthcare access and education from the vast services provided by Kaiser Permanente. Female as well as male students at Mills will have access to a team of physicians, a nurse and a health educator. About 1,500 students are eligible for services such as vaccinations, urgent care, as well as routine gynecological exams.

"Student health and wellness is a primary concern of the College," said Renée Jadushlever, Mills College Vice President for Operations. "The College continually looks for ways to provide convenient and comprehensive medical care and education to assure our students' well being."

A former Mills College chemistry laboratory was transformed over the summer into a state-of the-art medical facility with three exam rooms, a conference room, and medical offices. Some services will be free of charge while others will require a co-payment.

Mills College previously contracted with UC Berkeley's Tang Center for student health service needs.
