Oakland, CAMay 8, 2009. Mills College students who were eligible for or utilized health services through UC Berkeley’s
University Health Services (UHS) since 2001 have been exposed to an electronic data breach of personally identifiable information. It has
been confirmed that hackers were able to steal Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and non-treatment medical information
such as UHS medical record numbers, dates of visits, or names of providers from electronic databases belonging to UC Berkeley.
Since the discovery of this data breach, Mills College has been working closely with UC Berkeley to ensure that all steps are taken to
provide clear and detailed communication and support to any Mills students that may be impacted. Students were alerted to the breach by
both Mills and UC Berkeley and provided with access to a 24/7 live call center staffed with personnel trained to answer specific questions
related to student records and general information on steps to take. A dedicated website was created to provide timely information to all
students involved. Information sheets were distributed to provide guidance on how to avoid identity theft.

Mills College deeply regrets any potential impact this situation has on our students and their families and will continue
to work with University Health Services at UC Berkeley to ensure that Mills students are protected throughout this ongoing investigation.
