FOUR MILLS WOMEN FEATURED IN WISE TALK, WILD WOMEN

Oakland, CA - Four Mills women are profiled in Wise Talk, Wild Women, a new book by author Gwen Mazer and photographer Christine Alicino featuring the life stories of 21 women. Recently published by Council Oak Books, Wise Talk, Wild Women features U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee (Mills Class of 1973), Daphne Muse, director of the Mills Women’s Leadership Institute, Sensei Keiko Fukuda, Mills judo teacher (1967-1978), and Frances Dunham Catlett Crawford (Mills Class of 1947, MA).

According to the publisher, the book focuses on women who “reflect a shift in ideas, beliefs, and feelings about age for the 21st century.” The series of intimate conversations include poet Nikki Giovanni, activist Dolores Huerta, and teacher Jean Houston, as well as philanthropists, doctors, artists, and other women making a difference in the world.

Writer Eve Ensler, quoted on the book jacket, said “These portraits…are emotional maps, revealing the brilliance, grace, wisdom, fierceness, and beauty of women over 60.”

Mills College is a nationally renowned, independent liberal arts college offering innovative degree programs for undergraduate women, and graduate degree and certificate programs for women and men.
