MILLS WOMEN ROCK SF GIANTS TO SHUT OUT DIAMONDBACKS
Oakland, CA - Mills first-year students from the class of 2010 rocked the San Francisco Giants on to a 5–0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, August 21, 2006. Attending the baseball game at San Francisco’s AT&T Park as part of orientation activities, they joined approximately 38,000 people in the stadium and millions of viewers at home who saw two Mills-related messages on the Giants’ Jumbotron.
In the third inning, the scoreboard flashed “THE GIANTS WELCOME RENEL'S* ALMA MATER, MILLS COLLEGE, AND THE CLASS OF 2010. MILLS WOMEN ROCK! GO GIANTS!” Then, in the fifth Inning the Jumbotron display read “WELCOME JANET HOLMGREN, PRESIDENT OF MILLS COLLEGE.”
In addition to enjoying pitcher Noah Lowry’s first shutout of the season, Mills women saw left fielder Barry Bonds hit a splash hit into McCovey Cove in the fourth inning, for career home run #725.
